Skill proficiency (skill PT) is also an important aspect of building your character in RF Online. The great point is that the only way you can dead end yourself here, is if the related combat proficiency (PT) isn’t leveled, but I am getting ahead of myself.
When you begin the game and choose your class, you are given class specific skills.
Warriors are given melee attack skills and buffs.
Rangers are given ranged attack skills and buffs
Mages are given force skills and buffs, but required to buy spells(RF gold).
These skills are very useful and important to your class.
To view your skills you press the “S” button on the keyboard. The skill window is shown in the picture below.

The skills are separated by category, and each skill has its own Skill proficiency experience bar and current/max pt rating just like your combat proficiencies did. Every time you use a buff (on yourself or someone else) or attack skill (on a mob or another race) you will gain a small amount of Skill proficiency (skill PT) experience. Use the skill to increase the skill, it’s that simple.
You will notice that each skill has its own level.

Every time your Skill proficiency experience bar reaches 100% from skill usage, the skill will increase by one level. Every skill has 7 levels and then reaches “GM” (I believe it means “Grand master”) which basically means it’s capped and cannot be leveled any further. Each skill falls under a category. First is dependant on what type of skill it is (melee, ranged, or force). To change between them click the corresponding buttons at the top of the window.
In order from left to right the buttons are melee, ranged, and force

The next division of skills is the different tiers. Every class begins at tier 1. There are two more tiers (middle and high class) that are unlocked by obtaining a certain number of Skill proficiency pt. You gain Skill proficiency pt by using the skills as I mentioned before. The following picture shows where you can monitor your current and max Skill proficiency pt.

The last tier or type of skill are those specific to your class changes at level 30 and 40(RF powerleveling). These skills cannot be leveled. The skill tier categories are highlighted in the window below.

Note that in order to use your offensive skills, you must have the proper weapon equipped. There maybe certain cases where you want to keep up with combat proficiencies not specific to your class.
